A collection of classic twin-shock test bikes up for auction

One man’s obsession with motorcycles will see a classic collection auctioned off next month.

The Peter Bennett collection of classic twin shock trials bikes are being sold by Charterhouse at their Sherborne showrooms on Tuesday 31st May.

George Beale of Charterhouse said: “Peter decided it was time to let other enthusiasts enjoy his collection and asked us to auction off everything he amassed.

“It’s a fabulous insight into one man’s 40-year obsession with riding, collecting and generally tinkering with twin-shock motorcycles.”

Peter Bennett grew up with wheels and motors while his father owned a successful garage.

In the 1960s Peter competed as a successful solo driver and returned to trials in the 1980s, this time with Bob Honey as a passenger in sidecar trials.

In the collection there are around 60 complete bikes, around 20 disassembled bikes and a huge selection of engines, gearboxes, tanks, wheels and other spare parts, all sold without reserve.

The bikes and spares are from the 1960s, the last bike Peter bought five years ago.

In the collection there are Greeves, Fantic, SWM, Yamaha, Royal Enfield, KTM, Yamaha, Bultaco, Honda, Montessa and Italjet among many others.
