The renovation includes a complete overhaul of the hotel’s entrance and lobby, an overhaul of the property’s 25,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space, the addition of the Paperback Tavern & Paperback Market Provisions, a new state-of-the-art fitness center equipped with Life Fitness equipment and Peloton bikes and enhanced technology for a seamless overall guest experience. The project was designed by Campbell House and features a mix of styles to reflect local universities and the life science community.

Located on the Charles River between the famed Innovation Trail and world-class universities, the property’s redesign draws inspiration from the rich history that surrounds it. The lobby is a warm and welcoming space, sophisticated but informal; it is a social hub designed to capture the spirit of vibrant campus life. The design takes inspiration from the traditional, scholarly atmosphere of nearby universities while combining this aesthetic with industrial details and eclectic furnishings to create a playful environment for students, business travelers, families, and neighbors. The lobby now houses the Paperback Provisions market with plenty of seating options for every customer’s needs: from a space to play shuffleboard with friends to private booths to hook up and work. Upon arrival at an all-new main entrance, guests are greeted by enhanced hotel perimeter lighting that lines the hotel and illuminates the city skyline. The spacious lobby and iconic atrium feature design details of warm neutral tones and rich leather accents that evoke the history and charm of the surrounding towns. Custom artwork decorates the walls as a nod to local universities, evoking an illuminating aesthetic and mood.

Paperback Tavern, the new restaurant and bar, offers a menu of classic American and regional dishes, innovative cocktails and craft beers paired with stunning, unobstructed views of the Charles River and Boston skyline. A classic tavern with a modern influence, the atmosphere is fun and playful, making it an ideal social environment for events or a gathering center for local residents and scholars.
